Ottawa Says It Is ‘Confident’ India No Longer Linked to Violence on Canadian Soil
Canada has officially downgraded its stance on India by claiming it is "confident" that India is no longer associated with violent crimes or threats on Canadian soil. This comes as Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to make a highly anticipated trade trip to India to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the cities of Mumbai and New Delhi. A senior official stated that if it is suspected that India is actively interfering, this trip to reduce Canada's trade dependency on the U.S. would "not be happening right now." This is a drastic change in tone from 2023 when the previous administration, led by Justin Trudeau, accused India of the extrajudicial killing of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a claim India has called absurd since the start.
